This January (because this is how backed logged I am right now, thank you pneumonia) I joined the Columbus Food Bloggers, which is a group of foodies who all share a common goal, creating buzz around the food scene in Columbus. Everyone approaches food from different perspectives which makes getting together a rich, fun experience. The first event I was able to make it to was at The Poke Bro’s Gemini location, and it was a ball getting to meet everyone in person.
Poke Bro’s Poke Bowls
Still being new to town, being a part of this group has been pretty cool. I have other people now that love to talk about, experience, enjoy, photograph (!!!), and eat together. Everyone rotates through setting up events for the group, the first of which I was able to attend was the meet up at Poke Bro’s on Gemini Parkway. Directions can be found right here.)
I’ve heard about poke from pretty much, well, everyone that I’m friends with via Facebook, and everyone I know back on the West Coast. I had not however, had a chance to try it myself. So, I was absolutely in.
Their gemini location is in the same complex as a movie theater and a few other restaurants. It’s not suuuuuper visible from the street itself, but if you know where you’re going, it’s not hard to get it, and there is ample parking (HUGE plus in my book, especially when I’m wanting to grab something to go.)

The concept is similar to that of Chipotle, in the sense that you can either order a bowl as they have lined out, or, you can work your way down the line, choosing what you’d like and leaving out what you don’t.
I went for the option of making my own, with some strong suggestions from the great team working the line. I loaded up on the sauces, and cannot recommend them ALL.
Word to the wise though, along with sushi grade fish, they grill thier shrimp in house, and as much as they keep everything separate, it’s always a bit of a gamble when you have a the possibility of an anaphylactic response to shrimp.
The seating area is all communal (BIG FAN) so get cozy, and don’t be shy! You never know who you’ll meet, they may be your newest favorite person.
